Warm Days & Cool Evenings, Signals November Getaway

November at a Glance

Only four weeks out from Thanksgiving, we fully expect a sell-out. So make your guestroom, RV, or campsite reservation immediately for a minimum 3-night holiday stay.   Check out our online calendar of events to see the entire month of November at a glance!

Eagle Eye Observatory

Thanks to Daylight Savings Time, Eagle Eye Observatory’s one-hour sessions begin earlier in November.  Book your session through Guest Services before you arrive, [email protected],  or upon check-in. The program is now held Wednesday through Sunday, at 8 pm, 9 pm, or 10 pm. Private one-hour sessions are also available but must be booked a minimum of 1 week in advance.

The observatory is fascinating for adults and children. Jim Sheets, our resident astronomer, takes stargazing to a whole new level for beginners and enthusiasts. Read Jim’s monthly Astronomically Speaking column on our website. The November column (posted October 31)  tells you what to look for, including winter constellations, meteor showers, and prominent planets.

Guests are also welcome to bring a telescope and set it up on one of our 31 viewing stations surrounding the observatory. Each station includes an elevated platform and electricity.

Guided Nature Walks Native American Traditions

Noted Highland Lakes Master Gardener, Willard Horn, will lead a themed Canyon of the Eagles nature walk focusing on the three Native American Indians tribes who lived in the area and how they used native plants and animals. What native edibles sustained them, and how did they incorporate local plants for medical purposes to improve their wellbeing and health? In addition, we will see artifacts from Willard’s private collection! November guided walks will be held on Saturday, November 6 at 3 pm, Sunday, November 14 at 9 am, Sunday, November 21 at 9 am, and Friday, November 26 at 3 pm.

Fall Craft

We are offering a rather grown-up, but still kid-friendly, craft on Saturday, November 6 and 13 at 1:30 pm. Together, we will make a tiered decoration for your doorway to welcome you home. With burlap, silk, wood, and paper leaves in an assortment of colors and styles, you may craft a one-of-a-kind creation you will enjoy for years to come. The nominal $6 fee includes all art supplies and fun. You supply the creativity.
