Early Birds Catch More Than Worms!

It’s hard to imagine the cooler weather of fall and winter when the thermostat reads ninety-five. So set the air conditioner to seventy and read on. Because early bird planners catch a lot more than worms, they also have more holiday fun!

When’s the last time you and the family carved a pumpkin or built a gingerbread house? You’ll marvel at the sight of our enormous fresh Christmas tree. Ahh, the smell of pine.

Have your child write a letter to the Big Guy and post it in our North Pole express mailbox. (We have been known to share letters with parents since they are Santa’s official helpers.) Gather around the Jolly Guy in the red suit for photos. Sit under the stars at the nightly firepit with a cup of hot cocoa while you roast marshmallows for s’mores.  Reserve NOW for all these fun activities.

The fall and winter weather in the Texas Hill Country are meant for being outdoors! Take a brisk walk on our 14 miles of Nature Trails teaming with wildlife activity. The star of the show is the majestic American Bald Eagle who is in town for nesting season. They can be seen in the nature park and resort; however, they are most easily observed in the canyon while on our 8-passenger Canyon Cruise. We keep binoculars on the boat – but don’t forget your camera.

Eagles made an early appearance, usually October through March, with the first mature eagle sighting earlier this month. While no longer an endangered species, they are still protected as a symbol of America.  Eagles mate for life and return to the same nest each year to lay eggs.  Learn more with the new page on our website dedicated to the resort’s namesake.

Chef Matthew is busy creating our seasonal fall and winter menus for Overlook Restaurant which should be released in several weeks and promise to offer tummy-warming dishes best enjoyed with an outstanding glass of wine from nearby award-winning  Fall Creek Vineyards. If you visit the resort before then, check out our current menu offerings.

We would be remiss not to discuss the 300-pound gorilla in the room named COVID and his variant sidekicks Delta, Lambda, and Zeta. Why should Canyon of the Eagles be on your travel radar during the pandemic? Not only because nature is the best healer for the mind, body, and spirit, but because this park, lodging, dining, and activities are all Low-vid© (we coined the phrase meaning Low-risk Covid exposure.)

The guestrooms have no shared HVAC system with other rooms. No one enters your cleaned and sanitized room and our staff is required to wear masks with a temperature check before getting out of their car.  Outdoor dining and takeout are available and encouraged.  Don’t forget your mask, visitors and guests are required to wear masks as well, whether or not they are vaccinated.

Our activities and programs are  Low-vid© too because they are geared towards outdoor experiences with plenty of elbow-room such as music under the stars, the open-air observatory, guided nature walks, and the very popular snake education program called Shake, Rattle & Coil.  The night view at the open-air Eagle Eye Observatory and 2 -hour guided boat cruise are an experience you will not forget!

We can’t wait to welcome you again to Canyon of the Eagles!
